Queen’s Hospital, Romford is one of the NHS Trust’s largest acute hospital with an award winning building. Opened ion 2006, it has a full A&E service with trauma centre and a hyper-acute stroke unit. A canopy was required to run the full length of the building to shelter pedestrians to and from the car park, so our PlasGard patent glazing system was selected. The glazing bars were required to be spaced at 1000mm centres which needed thicker glass than for that which would be used at the more usual 600mm centres, so NSG Pilkington’s Technical Office recommended the use of 13.5mm laminated glass with a 1.5mm pvb interlayer providing Class 1 safety. The heavy duty PLM50 glazing bar deals with the greater imposed self-weight of glass, design wind & snow loads.
