Skylights

Bespoke skylights installed on roof

While traditional windows are beneficial to your living space, the amount of natural light that enters your building from them can be limited. However, if you add skylight windows to your property, you can transform your home with abundant natural light. Well designed roof windows can ensure that you have more light throughout the day, helping to improve your well-being and lower your energy costs.

The type of glass that you choose to have installed for your skylights is essential for ensuring quality and energy efficiency, and double or triple glazed skylights can help to regulate your indoor environment.

Whether you’re looking for pitched roof or flat roof skylights, we have a large range of products that will offer you easy installation and exceptional value.

Flat Skylights

Rooflights for flat roofs are increasingly popular with the growth of the home improvement sector. More fashionable than a conservatory, most home owners are opting for flat roof extensions featuring bi-fold doors and additional daylight created by a flat glass rooflight to create an inside/outside day room. Flat rooflights are typically single pane or can be continuous and made up of several linking glass roof panels.
An example of a multi-pane flat rooflight can be seen above.

Opening Skylights

From time to time building owners require the rooflight to provide either ventilation or access to roof terrace or roof gardens. Hinged opening rooflights can be fitted with a variety of opening mechanisms including electric or manual gears for day to day ventilation or folding arms that open the skylight to 90 degrees allowing easy access to the flat roof. AOV Rooflights (Automatic Opening Rooflights) are also available for smoke ventilation and it is important to ensure any smoke ventilator that is designed to save lives has been tested to EN12101 and the necessary certification obtained for CE marking.

Skylight FAQs

  • What are the benefits of installing skylights?

Skylights are popular with interior designers who specialise in contemporary design; provide natural daylight commercial and living spaces and this can reduce the need for artificial lighting. Not only can this help to improve concentration and boost your mood, but it can also enhance the aesthetics of a space.

  • How can skylights help to save on energy costs?

When you choose the right glass for your skylights, you can allow more light into your property while still keeping the heat in. This can reduce the need for artificial light and heating, both of which contribute to higher energy bills.

  • Can skylights be installed on any roof type?

Skylights can be installed on most roof types, however the design and process of installation can vary depending on roofing materials or structure.

For example, for a domed roof, you may need to use polycarbonate dome skylights to match the more unorthodox shape.

  • Can you walk on skylights?

The ability to walk on skylights will depend on the type of skylight and the choice of glass used. For example, a flat skylight made with toughened glass can offer a robust construction that will allow you to walk across them.
